Hisar: A 30-year-old man arrested in a domestic violence case was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the lock-up of Urban Estate police station in Hisar on Wednesday, prompting an inquiry.The deceased, Sunil, is a native of Sirsa village in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district. He ran Baba Chicken Corner in Hisar’s Fish Market. He was arrested on Tuesday after his wife, Sandhya, lodged a complaint alleging assault.Police officers and a forensics team reached the police station after the incident and collected evidence from the lock-up. Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajiv Kumar also visited the police station to oversee the inquiry.Officials examined CCTV footage and reviewed movements inside the lock-up during the night. Statements of the two other detainees lodged in the same barrack, as well as those of Sunil’s family members, were also recorded.According to police, the two detainees told investigators that Sunil woke up during the night to use the washroom, returned to the barrack and went back to sleep. He was found unresponsive on Wednesday morning.A police spokesperson said Sunil had undergone a medical examination before being lodged in the lock-up on Tuesday night. The exact cause of death would be known only after the postmortem examination and completion of the investigation, the official said, adding that all angles were being probed.
