New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is preparing a proposal to dispose of 75 electric vehicles (EVs) procured from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in 2018 after they remained non-functional for years. The vehicles, parked in the basement of the civic centre, covered in dust, as govt continue to promote electric mobility to reduce pollution.Mayor Pravesh Wahi said MCD is drafting a proposal outlining the procedure for disposing of the vehicles in accordance with prescribed norms. The EVs were leased under a six-year agreement with EESL. According to the mayor, “the vehicles offered a range of only about 100 km per charge, which proved impractical for civic operations, while battery-related issues also emerged. After the lease period ended, the agency decided not to renew the maintenance contract, citing high costs.”Delhi govt rolled out a new EV policy from July 1, encouraging greater adoption of electric vehicles.
