Fire Breaks Out in Parikrama Restaurant Chimney, Building Evacuated

New Delhi: A fire broke out in the kitchen chimney of the Parikrama revolving restaurant in central Delhi’s Connaught Place on Tuesday afternoon, prompting the evacuation of the building. There was no casualty.Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said a call about the fire at the restaurant on Barakhamba Road reached it at 3.40 pm, following which seven fire tenders and 42 fire personnel were rushed to the spot. Thick smoke was seen billowing from the top floor of the high-rise housing the restaurant.The rescuers deployed a skylift to facilitate rescue. The entire building was evacuated.“The fire was found to be in the kitchen chimney, in the oil and grease deposits accumulated inside it,” a DFS official said, adding that the blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes.Officials said the fire did not spread beyond the chimney duct and was extinguished at the source. Timely intervention by the fire personnel helped prevent any major damage.No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. Police said an inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
