FRRO deports 43 overstaying foreigners in six months

Panaji: The foreigners regional registration office (FRRO), Goa, deported 43 foreigners illegally staying in the state during the first half of the year, including 14 in June alone.Among those deported was a Nigerian national who had been staying in Delhi for nearly 11 years before moving to Goa two months ago, where she allegedly served food to other Nigerian nationals.The highest number of deportees were from Russia 14, followed by Bangladesh 8, and Uganda 8. FRRO Goa also deported nationals from Iran, Belarus, Nigeria, Australia, Nepal, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Kenya.Police said most overstaying foreigners are involved in illegal businesses or human trafficking. “Most of the foreigners come to India on tourist visas, while some arrive on business visas, but their intention is to stay in India,” a police officer said.SP and DySP (FRRO) Braz Menezes said the drive against overstaying foreigners will continue, with efforts focused on identifying violators and initiating deportation proceedings.Over the past one-and-a-half years, FRRO Goa has deported or facilitated the exit of around 150 foreign nationals, including more than 29 Bangladeshi nationals who had overstayed.A senior police officer said FRRO Goa remains committed to taking firm and lawful action against overstaying foreign nationals while safeguarding the interests of genuine and law-abiding foreigners visiting or residing in Goa. The officer advised hotel owners, guesthouse operators, homestay providers, landlords and others providing accommodation to foreign nationals to ensure timely and accurate submission of C-Forms in accordance with the law.The number of crimes committed by foreigners in Goa was more than six times the number of offences committed against them between 2022 and 2025. According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, Goa police registered 251 cases involving foreigners between 2022 and 2024. Of these, 206 involved foreigners as accused, while in 45 cases they were victims.Across the country, foreigners have been booked or arrested in cases involving attempt to murder, rape, rioting, assault on public servants, cheating, offences under the Foreigners Act, immoral trafficking, possession and peddling of narcotics, and theft.
