Businessman leaves video & note before suicide, abetment case against wife and 7 relatives in Faridabad

Gurgaon: A 28-year-old garment businessman allegedly died by suicide In Faridabad on Sunday morning, leaving behind a video and a suicide note in which he held his wife and her family responsible. On Monday, an FIR was registered against eight opeople. The matter came to light around 11am when the brother of the deceased, Amit, saw the video on social media (Instagram) and rushed to his shop — which was opened a month before in Sector 3 below his house, on the ground floor — with family members, where they broke through the locked glass doors only to find that Rahul had hanged himself. “Rahul took his own life inside his store, using his final on-camera moments to plead his innocence by stating, ‘God knows how right I am and how right she is,’” said his father Krishna Gopal. In the video Rahul demanded strict legal action against his in-laws and firmly declaring that all his property, shop and belongings should “rightfully” go to his mother, sisters and brothers. Following an autopsy at BK Civil Hospital, the body was handed over to the family. Based on the family’s formal complaint and the video evidence, the FIR was registered against Rahul’s wife Pragati Arora, her parents, her sister and extended relatives under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS, a police officer said, adding the accused family is “absconding”.Krishna, who has two daughters and has now lost his only son, said the couple was married for two and a half years following an arranged wedding in Gandhi Colony that was built on “coercion”, alleging that Pragati blackmailed his son into the marriage by threatening to accuse him of using and abandoning her.The family detailed a toxic domestic life where Rahul actively tried to appease his wife by performing daily household chores — including sweeping, mopping and washing dishes — while Pragati allegedly remained hostile, refused to cook and repeatedly assaulted him. Despite earning a monthly salary of around Rs 30,000 from her job in Noida, Pragati allegedly handed all her earnings to her own parents while forcing Rahul to bear all her expenses, openly declaring that she would neither have children with him nor grant him a divorce, stating her intention was merely to use him financially. To give the couple space, Krishna even built a separate house for them across different floors in Sector 3 (Housing Board Colony), but the harassment persisted as Pragati eventually cut Rahul off from the household completely. The marital discord reached a breaking point overnight over a trivial domestic dispute involving wiping water with a floor wiper, during which Rahul picked up the wiper out of frustration. Following this altercation, Pragati allegedly called her parents — her father Bittu and mother Veena Arora — as well as her sister Geetika Arora, to the house, who then assaulted Rahul and subsequently filed a police complaint against him at the local police post.“My son had never been to a police station before. He was severely humiliated by being made to sit there and was pushed into deep mental agony when his wife threatened to have him jailed. Feeling profoundly insulted, trapped and overwhelmed by the continuous psychological distress, he took the extreme step,” Krishna added.
