Amritsar: The Amritsar police commissionerate on Saturday claimed to have busted a cross-border illegal arms smuggling network, arresting four persons with 10 sophisticated pistols.Police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar identified the accused as Ravi Singh (33), Sharanbir Singh alias Sunny (31), Manpreet Singh alias Mannu (21), and Pippal Singh (22). The weapons included three .30 bore pistols (made in China), one 9mm Glock (made in Austria), another 9mm pistol, and five .30 bore pistols, along with nine live cartridges. Police also impounded two motorcycles used by the accused.Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were acting on the directions of foreign-based smugglers and were receiving illegal consignments through cross-border routes for onward supply to criminal elements.Police records revealed that Sharanbir alias Sunny and Ravi Singh were already involved in a case registered under attempt to murder and Arms Act provisions.Bhullar said all four accused hail from villages close to the international border, indicating proximity-based access and their alleged involvement in cross-border arms smuggling.
