PANCHKULA: The Panchkula Police have dismissed a Special Police Officer (SPO) after a video showing him allegedly assaulting a man in the Ramgarh area surfaced on social media.According to police officials, the incident involved SPO Jaiveer Singh, who was posted with the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) in the Ramgarh police outpost area.Preliminary information suggests that local residents had informed the police about a suspicious person roaming in the area.Acting on the information, a police team reached the spot and found the man allegedly in an inebriated condition.During the course of the incident, a video purportedly showing SPO Jaiveer Singh assaulting the man emerged and quickly went viral on social media platforms.The Panchkula Police immediately took cognizance of the matter and initiated action.After reviewing the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta ordered the immediate dismissal of SPO Jaiveer Singh from service.DCP Gupta stated that there is no place in the police department for indiscipline, misconduct or misuse of authority.She emphasized that the primary responsibility of the police is to protect citizens, maintain law and order and treat members of the public with dignity and respect.She further stated that strict action would be taken against any police personnel found violating established codes of conduct.Reiterating the department’s commitment to accountability, she said that maintaining public trust remains a top priority for the Panchkula Police and that similar stringent action would continue to be taken in cases of misconduct.The DCP’s action has been viewed as a strong message that misuse of the police uniform and abuse of power will not be tolerated within the force.
