State steps in to clear roadblocks for city gas projects

Kolkata: The state govt has asked all city gas distribution (CGD) companies operating in Bengal to submit details of their land requirements and projects awaiting administrative approvals to expedite the rollout of gas infrastructure. At a meeting with representatives of CGD companies on Thursday, state commerce and industries secretary Vandana Yadav directed them to provide details of pending issues, including land-related requirements and approvals holding up projects. She also asked the companies to prepare a list of completed projects ready for inauguration and submit it to the govt.“This was the first meeting involving all CGD companies in nearly two years. The secretary sought details of land requirements for each project and asked us to identify bottlenecks, including pending approvals, that are delaying implementation,” a senior CGD company official said. The official said construction of GAIL’s 162-km Rajarambati-Haldia pipeline is progressing smoothly, but approval is still pending for a 2-km stretch in Howrah district. After being informed about the issue, Yadav reportedly spoke to the Howrah district magistrate and instructed the administration to resolve the matter at the earliest.
