Silchar: Five faculty members from the department of Life Science and Bioinformatics at Assam University, Silchar, have been recognised among the world’s top 5% scientists in the 2025 Global Scientist Index, bringing international acclaim to the central university. The researchers who secured a place in the prestigious global ranking are Prof. Sarbani Giri, Prof. Suchismita Das, Prof. Anupam Das Talukdar, Prof. Anupom Borah and Dr. Shuvasish Choudhury. The recognition has been conferred by SciRank Global (The Global Institute of Scientometrics), an independent certification body that evaluates scientific performance through a transparent, data-driven and mathematically rigorous framework.According to SciRank Global, the 2025 Global Scientist Index is based on an extensive bibliometric assessment of more than 10 million active researcher profiles and over 50 million scholarly publications worldwide. The ranking system aims to identify scientific excellence solely on the basis of measurable contributions to knowledge, while eliminating biases related to geography, institutional affiliation and academic seniority. The index employs a Normalized Composite Score (NCS), which measures researchers’ performance through multiple parameters, including the number and quality of scientific publications, citation impact, influence within their respective disciplines and overall contribution to advancing knowledge and innovation.University officials described the achievement as a significant milestone for Assam University and a testament to the quality of research being undertaken at the institution. They said the recognition reflects the dedication of the faculty members and strengthens the university’s growing reputation in life sciences and bioinformatics research. The accomplishment is expected to further enhance the university’s standing in the global academic community and inspire young researchers to pursue high-quality scientific work.
