Two held for killing senior citizen during theft bid | Chandigarh News



Yamunanagar: In a breakthrough in the murder case of an elderly man in Jathlana village on June 19, teams of crime investigation agency (CIA)-I and CIA-II jointly arrested two accused allegedly involved in the crime.Yamunanagar ASP Ashish Chaudhary said that following the brutal murder of elderly resident Jagdish Bansal on June 19, SP Kamaldeep Goyal had issued instructions to identify and arrest the perpetrators at the earliest.Acting on these directions, the CIA teams launched a coordinated operation and succeeded in arresting two suspects. On June 22, police arrested the two accused near Gheer village in Karnal district. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ajay Kumar and Ankit, both residents of Karnal district.The accused were produced before the court on Tuesday, which granted five-day police remand of Ajay and Ankit for further investigation. According to the ASP, investigators scrutinised CCTV footage from Jathlana village and nearby areas while tracing the movements of suspicious individuals linked to the case. During the review of footage, two motorcycle-borne suspects were seen near the crime scene on the night of the incident. The suspects were subsequently tracked using intelligence inputs and technical evidence.Police said that Jagdish Bansal, an elderly man, was living alone in his house in Jathlana. During the night of June 18 -19, the accused allegedly entered his residence by scaling the boundary wall with the intention of committing theft. When Bansal resisted, the accused allegedly attacked him with sharp-edged weapons and an iron rod, resulting in his death. Following the incident, a case was registered at Jathlana Police Station on June 19.Police records reveal that Ajay Kumar has six criminal cases related to robbery and theft registered against him, while Ankit has four similar cases pending before the court.Ends MSID:: 131938372 413 |
