Lucknow fire: Body of Howrah tech instructor brought home

Howrah: The charred body of 28-year-old Anamika Samanta, a resident of Jagatballavpur in Howrah who worked as a multimedia instructor at a computer education centre in the ill-fated Lucknow coaching centre building, was identified and brought to her ancestral home in Garh Balia on Wednesday after a post-mortem examination. Her last rites were performed the same evening at the Jagatballavpur crematorium. Grief-stricken locals observed a day of mourning by refraining from cooking. Anamika’s fiancé, Nilesh Kumar, also died of burn injuries in the same incident.A blaze at the coaching centre in Aliganj, Lucknow, on Monday afternoon resulted in the deaths of 15 people.Howrah Rural Superintendent of Police Amit Varma told TOI on the phone, “About three and a half years ago, Anamika got a job at a computer education centre in Lucknow, where she shifted. She used to visit her hometown occasionally, though the rest of her family now lives in an apartment in Taltala, Kolkata. Her family received the tragic news on Monday night, but they were initially unable to identify her body. After completion of post-mortem on Tuesday, her body was brought to her home in Jagatballavpur on Wednesday.Anamika’s family members said she had plans to marry Nilesh, who worked in a neighbouring office in the same building in Lucknow, this Nov.
