PUNE: A fear of family humiliation allegedly stopped Siya Goyal from walking away from her engagement with Ketan Agarwal and eloping with her partner Chetan Chaudhary, police said, claiming this became the reason behind the murder plot.“During the interrogation, Chetan was asked why they did not consider running away and instead chose to eliminate Ketan. According to him, Siya was not in favour of calling off the engagement and eloping with Chetan, as she thought doing so would bring disrespect to her family,” police sources told news agency PTI.The murder of Ketan, who was engaged to Siya, initially appeared to be a trekking accident after he allegedly fell from Lohagad Fort near Pune on June 18.Siya had informed his family that he slipped during the trek.However, police said a CCTV trail at the fort’s ticket counter changed the course of the investigation. Footage allegedly showed a hooded man following Ketan and Siya, raising suspicion among investigators.“The man was wearing shorts and a hoodie. The front part of the hoodie was pulled so low that his face could not be seen. Additionally, the man was wearing a headset over the hoodie. In another footage clip, we noticed Siya suddenly looking back and, at the same time, the man in the hoodie suddenly sitting down,” a police officer said.The officer added that police checked the temperature on June 18 and found it was around 33 degrees Celsius, raising questions over why the man was wearing a hoodie.Police later identified the man as Chetan Chaudhary and said that he and Siya conspired to kill Ketan. Both have been sent to police custody till June 29.
