New Badalpur substation, network upgrades to boost power supply

Noida: Work on a new 33/11 kV substation in Badalpur, Greater Noida, has begun as part of efforts to modernise power infrastructure in GB Nagar. Authorities said the project, along with upgrades to the 11 kV network, is expected to improve supply for over 10,000 consumers, especially during peak summer demand. Two existing substations in Sectors 38 and 16 have been augmented with additional 10 MVA transformers to enhance load capacity. Officials said this will strengthen distribution and reduce the risk of outages.Under the centre’s revamped distribution sector scheme (RDSS), Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) is also commissioning 3-way Ring Main Units (RMUs) in Sector 22 and the Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ). RMUs are compact switchgear systems that enable a looped network, allowing quicker fault isolation and faster restoration of supply.“The introduction of RMUs will significantly improve the reliability of the 11 kV network and ensure faster restoration during outages,” said Vivek Kumar Patel, superintending engineer, PVVNL, Noida.A new power transformer has also been installed in Sector 38 to further boost capacity and meet future demand, officials added, stating that projects are being executed within timelines and quality standards. However, residents remain sceptical, citing persistent outages. “Even light rain or overgrown trees brushing overhead cables lead to frequent faults,” said Anil Kumar, a resident of Sector 56.
