Two candidates arrested in lab assistant recruitment scam

Jaipur: Rajasthan Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) Tuesday arrested two candidates allegedly selected in the Laboratory Assistant Direct Recruitment Examination-2018 after their OMR answer sheets were found to be manipulated during the scanning process. The accused were identified as Mahendra Kumar Meena, 31, of Karauli district and Devendra Singh Gurjar, 28, of Dausa district.Additional director general of police (SOG) Vishal Bansal said the arrests were made during the investigation of an FIR registered at the SOG police station.According to investigators, Rabhav Ltd, the agency responsible for scanning OMR answer sheets for the recruitment examination, allegedly tampered with answer sheets to facilitate the selection of 27 candidates. The probe found that Vinod Kumar Gaur and Shadan Khan, employees of the agency, allegedly manipulated OMR sheets during the scanning process to secure the provisional selection of candidates. Both, along with the company’s executive director Rampravesh Singh, were arrested earlier in the case.SOG officials said the agency employees allegedly acted in collusion with candidates to inflate their scores and secure selection.Investigators found that Mahendra Kumar Meena was shown to have secured 165 marks during OMR scanning. However, a fresh scan conducted by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board found his actual score to be four marks.Similarly, Devendra Singh Gurjar was shown to have scored 191 marks, while re-scanning revealed his actual score was only two marks.Police said the large discrepancy between the scores recorded during scanning and those found during re-scanning indicated deliberate manipulation of OMR data. The two candidates were arrested during a drive to trace the wanted accused in the case. Further investigation is underway to identify other beneficiaries and ascertain the full extent of the alleged recruitment fraud.
