Silchar: Assam Police seized 29,000 Yaba tablets valued at around Rs 2.9 crore and arrested a man during an anti-narcotics operation in Silchar’s Ramnagar area on Monday night.Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a two-wheeler on the Ramnagar bypass road and recovered the contraband during a search. The rider, identified as Aftab Uddin Laskar, a resident of Hailakandi district, was arrested on the spot.Police sources said the seized tablets are estimated to be worth around Rs 2.9 crore in the black market.The operation was part of an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking networks in the region. Investigators are questioning the accused to ascertain the source of the consignment and its intended destination.CM Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the seizure, describing it as “another major blow to the drug network”. In a post on social media, Sarma said the state’s anti-drug drive would continue unabated.Yaba, a highly addictive synthetic drug containing methamphetamine and caffeine, is frequently trafficked through the northeastern states due to their proximity to international borders.A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
