Dibrugarh launches trade licence inspection drive

Dibrugarh: The Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) on Tuesday carried out a trade licence inspection drive across Ward 17, Ward 18 and Ward 20 as part of a citywide campaign to ensure businesses comply with municipal licensing regulations.A team from the DMC visited markets, shops, eateries and service establishments, checking for valid trade licences, display of licence certificates and adherence to licence conditions. The initiative signals a firm commitment by the civic body to bring all business establishments under the formal licensing framework, a move expected to strengthen municipal revenue streams while simultaneously improving accountability and consumer protection standards across the city.Dibrugarh mayor Saikat Patra said the inspection exercise would be extended to all 22 wards of the city.“We want every business in Dibrugarh to operate legally, transparently and in full compliance with municipal norms. No establishment will be left unchecked. Licensing helps us monitor sanitation standards, waste disposal and the legal responsibilities of establishments. It also enables better municipal planning and service delivery,” he added.“With Dibrugarh being projected as the second capital, we must improve governance and civic compliance. A city aspiring for prominence must present itself as organised, lawful and business-friendly,” Patra said.
