Passenger flees with rented cab in Medipally

Hyderabad: A man posing as a passenger allegedly fled with a cab after the driver stepped out of the vehicle at Medipally on Sunday. The victim, Ch Bhanu Prabhu (26), a native of Nalgonda, approached the Medipally police, alleging that his car had been stolen. Prabhu told the police that he had taken a Swift sedan on rent from its owner, P Izak Raj Kumar of Hayathnagar. On Saturday night, at around 11.55 pm, while waiting for passengers at Uppal X Roads, an unidentified man approached him and enquired about a trip to Chengicherla.Prabhu agreed to drop the customer at Chengicherla for Rs 450. While they were on their way to the destination, the passenger asked him to stop near a pan shop in Medipally. “Claiming that he was suffering from leg pain, the passenger requested me to buy him a cigarette from the shop. As I got out of the car and went to the shop, he sped away in my vehicle,” Bhanu told police. On his complaint, Medipally police booked a case under Section 303(2) (theft), 318(2) (cheating) of the BNS against the unidentified offender on Sunday. “Our teams are verifying the CCTV cameras at various locations to identify and arrest the accused,” Medipally DI N Election Reddy said.
