Light rain hits Ahmedabad as monsoon advances
The state currently has a trough from north Gujarat to west-central Arabian Sea across Saurashtra, according to IMD

Ahmedabad: After over a week, the southwest monsoon inched northwards with its upper limit passing through Alibaug and Pune in Maharashtra on Monday morning. Chances are good for the arrival of monsoon in south Gujarat later this week, said Met department officials.On Monday night, some parts of the city experienced light drizzle as the weather remained partially cloudy during the day. The maximum temperature remained high at 40.5°C, 2.6 degrees higher than normal. At 29.4°C, the minimum temperature was 1.8 degrees higher than normal. On Tuesday, it is likely to be around 41°C, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast.IMD forecast for Gujarat indicated no major change in maximum temperatures for the next seven days.The state currently has a trough from north Gujarat to west-central Arabian Sea across Saurashtra, according to IMD.Till 8pm, 44 talukas received 1mm or more rainfall in Gujarat with Bhavnagar receiving 47mm rain, followed by 45mm in Umarpada (Surat), 39mm in Sagbara (Narmada), 32mm in Ukai (Tapi), and 30mm in Valsad among others. Majority of rainfall was concentrated around districts in south Gujarat.Some parts of south Gujarat and coastal Saurashtra may experience moderate thundershowers on Tuesday, according to the forecast.Apart from Ahmedabad, cities and towns with over 40°C temperature included Gandhinagar (41°C), Vallabh Vidyanagar (40.7°C), Surendranagar (40.5°C), and Rajkot (40.3°C).
