Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday sought the defence ministry’s support for the expansion of Adilabad airport, pressing for cargo, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities, hangars, and a civil aviation terminal alongside the Indian Air Force’s development of the airport project.Meeting defence minister Rajnath Singh at Kartavya Bhavan in Delhi, the CM described the airport as a top priority for Telangana and emphasised its strategic importance to both national defence and civil aviation.He assured the minister of full cooperation in land acquisition and utilities transfer for the Adilabad airport project. “The world’s popular airlines are currently seeking suitable locations for their hangars, partly due to recent developments in Central Asia,” the CM said, stressing that Adilabad airport is well suited for hangar operations.He highlighted its potential to attract international carriers and strengthen Telangana’s aviation infrastructure. He said establishment of cargo and MRO facilities would boost employment and economic activity in the region.Revanth expressed gratitude to Singh for approving the transfer of 83 acres of defence land for the Gandhi Sarovar Musi project and urged him to expedite sanction for the Defence Research and Development Organisation and Defence Research and Development Laboratory facility planned near Devarakadra in Mahbubnagar district.
