Aizawl: A Mizo minor girl, who was rescued from human traffickers by West Bengal Police, has been brought to her native town in Kolasib.On Wednesday night, a team comprising officials from West Bengal’s Nadia district and police took the girl home.Officials of the Kolasib District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) said the girl was lured by a woman residing in Kolasib district and her male friend from Serchhip district to work at a spa in Maharashtra on Feb 12. The duo was arrested by West Bengal Police during random checking of a train they were travelling in on Feb 14.The woman and her male companion were booked under relevant sections of the Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection & Rehabilitation Act, 2018 and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) while the girl was also detained and later admitted to a home in Nadia district.The minor was reportedly offered Rs 20,000 per month to work at the spa in Maharashtra, with travel expenses and food promised for the journey from Mizoram to Mumbai.After being lodged at the home in Nadia district, officials said no one came forward for the girl until the Nadia district child welfare committee contacted the Kolasib DCPU. The repatriation process then took months to finalise, officials said, citing procedural delays and disruption linked to the conduct of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and subsequent state assembly elections.
