Rajkot: Seven second-year resident doctors of Government Medical College, Bhavnagar, who were suspended for ragging 13 juniors, were booked by the Nilambaug police on Saturday, with the FIR revealing shocking details of extreme physical and mental torture.The victim doctors were ragged in the Trauma Centre of Sir T Hospital during the four months, spanning from March 1 to June 2026.A formal police complaint was filed by Dr. Ajay Seta, an assistant professor in the orthopaedics department. The police action was initiated following a directive from the govt and an investigation by the medical college’s anti-ragging squad, which uncovered the abuse after an initial complaint was made on the anti-ragging e-portal.The seven resident doctors named in the FIR are Dr. Vir alias Virendrasinh Jadeja, Dr. Jayant Devani, Dr. Pravin Varma, Dr. Dharmendra Dayal, Dr. Vishal Dabhi, Dr. Aman Varma and Dr. Divya Modi. The police have invoked Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 351(1) (criminal intimidation), and 296 (obscene acts and utterances in public) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The FIR details alleged cruel punishments, including forcing the juniors to write a single item more than a thousand times and making them stand outside the Operation Theatre (OT) and hospital wards for entire nights.The junior doctors were further humiliated by being allegedly forced to assume stress positions, such as the ‘rooster’ (murga) pose, inside the operation theatre and departments, while the seniors recorded videos and took photos of their humiliation. The victims were made to hold these agonising poses until they suffered severe muscle cramps or lost consciousness.Furthermore, the seniors allegedly deprived them of basic human needs, denying them fixed times to eat or sleep during the day. If any junior was caught attempting to eat or rest, they were singled out and subjected to separate, targeted punishments, the FIR states.The torture extended to public humiliation, with seniors hurling abuses at the juniors in the OT and wards. For seemingly small mistakes, the victims were routinely summoned at 3 a.m., forced to perform sit-ups, and threatened with beating.
