Secunderabad Cantonment Board approves ₹317-crore budget for 2026-27, clears slew of development projects across 8 wards

Hyderabad: In a major boost to civic infrastructure, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) on Wednesday approved its budget for 2026-27 and cleared a slew of development works across all eight wards using funds received in lieu of land allotted for the proposed elevated corridor.The decisions were taken at the board’s governing body meeting chaired by SCB president Brigadier S Rajeev. Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender, Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Sri Ganesh, nominated member Narmada and chief executive officer Arvind Kumar Dwivedi attended the meeting.The board approved a budget outlay of ₹317.78 crore for 2026-27 and also cleared budget estimates of ₹310.32 crore for 2027-28.Development works worth around ₹316 crore were sanctioned for the cantonment area. The funds comprise ₹303 crore lying in an escrow account, paid by the Centre in exchange for land earmarked for the elevated corridor project, and an additional ₹13 crore expected to be received. The amount will be utilised for underground drainage and nala development works in all eight wards, to be executed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and HMDA.During the meeting, the MP and MLA raised concerns over permission granted for the construction of a compound wall around the disputed eight-acre land parcel in Survey No. 157/1 at New Bowenpally. Responding to the issue, the CEO said the permission had been granted in compliance with high court directions.The board also discussed traffic congestion caused by garbage transport vehicles parked along both sides of Mudfort Road. Officials informed members that steps were being taken to shift the vehicles to vacant land and clarified that houses belonging to poor residents would not be demolished.
