Guwahati: The NDA in Assam has named BJP MLA and medical professional Habbey Teron as its nominee for deputy speaker of the state assembly, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.Teron, who represents the Amri (ST) Hills constituency in West Karbi Anglong district, is the first MLA elected from the newly-created assembly segment.“A medical professional by training and the first elected representative from the newly created Amri constituency, Dr Teron represents the aspirations of our tribal communities,” Sarma said in a post on X.The deputy speaker’s election is expected to be held during the budget session of the assembly beginning July 6. The position has been vacant since the 16th legislative assembly was constituted, with BJP veteran Ranjeet Kumar Dass elected speaker during the first session of the new House in May.The NDA retained power in Assam for a third straight term after winning 102 of the 126 seats in the assembly polls.
