Pune: A 65-year-old farmer lost his gold chain worth Rs 3 lakh to two conmen after the latter diverted his attention near Kalewadi Phata on Tuesday.The farmer lodged a complaint with the Wakad police. An officer from the Wakad police said that on Tuesday morning, the complainant was waiting for his son near Kalewadi Phata when two men on a motorcycle approached him and enquired about a nearby temple.“The farmer gave them the address. The duo told him that they wanted to donate Rs 3,000 at the temple,” the officer said.He said the duo then requested the elderly man remove his gold chain and touch it to the cash for good fortune. The conmen even helped the complainant remove the chain.“When the complainant touched his gold chain to the cash, the duo took the chain from him, wrapped it in paper and returned it to the farmer. They also offered him a biscuit as ‘prasad’, and drove away. When the complainant opened the paper, he found two stones instead of his gold chain,” the officer said.The officer said the complainant also provided us with their descriptions. “We have started examining CCTV footage from the spot,” the officer said.
