Head constable suspended for close shave with CM’s convoy at Amona

Margao: Goa police have suspended head constable Samir Fadte, who was among four persons taken into preventive custody after his car came dangerously close to chief minister Pramod Sawant’s convoy at Amona last week. An inquiry into the incident has been ordered.Fadte was driving a four-wheeler on the night of June 12 when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle near Amona, bringing it dangerously close to the CM’s motorcade as Sawant was travelling from Panaji to his Sanquelim residence. One of the vehicles in the convoy chased the car after it attempted to flee the spot, and the three occupants — all friends of Fadte — were handed over to Bicholim police. Fadte, who had gone missing from the scene, was traced the following day.Bicholim police had said all four, including Fadte, were under the influence of alcohol. The three others were detained because they had helped the driver escape. All four were produced before the deputy collector, before whom they signed a bond of good behaviour, and were released. No FIR was registered as the incident did not result in a collision.
