Assam, Arunachal join hands to curb illegal liquor trade

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh and Assam govts on Wednesday held a high-level ministerial meeting at the civil secretariat here to curb illegal liquor trade and plug revenue leakages. The aim was to forge a stronger inter-state cooperative framework for the excise administration.The joint session was chaired by Arunachal Pradesh deputy CM Chowna Mein, who holds the finance, tax, excise, and narcotics portfolios. The Assam delegation was led by its minister Atul Bora, along with top bureaucrats from the finance and excise departments of both states, an official statement from the deputy CM’s office said.Welcoming the visiting team, Mein invoked the historical ties shared by the two states, noting that deep-rooted trust and cooperation are vital for seamless regional governance. A unified approach is non-negotiable when dealing with modern governance hurdles and cross-border statutory compliance, he said.
