Margao: Five police personnel, including a PSI and a head constable, were transferred to the reserve line after a video allegedly showing them collecting money from vehicle drivers at the Mollem check post without issuing challans went viral on social media. The disciplinary action — against one PSI, one head constable, and three constables — follows a preliminary inquiry ordered by then South Goa Superintendent of Police Shekhar Prabhudesai on June 14 after the video surfaced online and spread rapidly. Prabhudesai had directed Ponda DySP Shivram Vaingankar to investigate and submit a report within two days. The SP had said at the time that strict action would be initiated if the allegations were substantiated. The transfer to the reserve line indicates the inquiry found prima facie merit in the complaint. The video, purportedly showing police personnel accepting cash from drivers at the checkpost without corresponding challans being issued, had triggered sharp public criticism after it went viral.
