Chandigarh medical store shooting: 2 accused arrested
The incident took place on Saturday afternoon when two masked men allegedly entered a medical store in Sector 11 and opened fire on cashier Janki Das.

CHANDIGARH: Police have apprehended two shooters in connection with the Sector 11 firing case in which a medical store cashier was shot dead. The arrests were made during a joint operation conducted by the Chandigarh Operation Cell, Crime Branch, and Jammu & Kashmir Police, senior police officers said. The incident took place on Saturday afternoon when two masked men allegedly entered a medical store in Sector 11 and opened fire on cashier Janki Das. Das sustained critical injuries in the attack and was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. According to police, the shooting occurred around 2.30 pm. After firing multiple rounds at the cashier, the assailants fled the scene. Investigators said a third accomplice was waiting outside on a motorcycle, and all three escaped together after the attack. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sumer Pratap Singh said an investigation was launched immediately and all possible angles were being examined. SSP Sumer Pratap Singh said, “This incident took place today at 2.30pm. Two masked individuals arrived at the shop here. They launched a barrage of gunfire at the shop’s employee, Janki Das, and subsequently managed to flee the scene. An accomplice was waiting outside on a motorcycle, and all three of them escaped together. The investigation is currently at a very preliminary stage. We are exploring every possibility.“The shop owner hadn’t received any threats before this… He (Janki Das) has passed away. A total of thirteen rounds were fired… This individual was a resident of Dhanas and worked as a cashier at the shop,” he added further.“The person on the motorcycle did not come inside. He was standing outside. We are obtaining CCTV footage and gathering information about him. We have initiated roadblocks across the city, and we are making every effort to catch them,” he said. Police said the motorcycle-borne accomplice remained outside the store during the attack and did not enter the premises. Officials examined CCTV footage from the area and gathered details about the attackers as part of the investigation. Janki Das, a native of Himachal Pradesh, was residing in Dhanas and worked as a cashier at the medical store, police said. The motive behind the shooting is yet to be established. Police have not yet disclosed further details regarding the arrests and are continuing their investigation into the case.(With Agency Inputs)
