Varanasi: In a protest against opposition parties, a group of women in Varanasi took out a march on Sunday condemning the defeat of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha. Blaming the opposition for stalling the bill, the protesting women also warned their husbands to stay away from such parties or else they will go on a kitchen strike and stop giving them food.They also burnt effigies of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.The march titled ‘Benaqab’ (exposed) was taken out under the banner of Mahila Parishad from Subhash Mandir till Munshi Premchand Smriti Dwar in Lamahi. They decried the opposition leaders as anti-women.A placard appealed to the wives of opposition leaders to stop giving roti-pani to their husbands while some placards had a warning for the husbands of the protesters.Addressing protesters, Mridula Jaiswal of BHU’s history department flayed opposition leaders for sporting victory smiles and laughing after insulting women in Parliament by defeating the bill. “They behaved like those who laughed at Draupadi when she was insulted in the court of Kauravas,” said protesters. They thanked PM Narendra Modi for showing commitment towards the Women’s Reservation Bill.They said opposition parties do not want ordinary women to reach Parliament and state assemblies. They asked when Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav can allow Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Dimple Yadav to become MPs then why are stopping common women from becoming MPs and MLAs.
