Pune: The civic body has appealed to senior citizens that they should not believe the message circulating on social media that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is offering a 30% flat discount on property tax to the elderly.Head of PMC’s property tax department Ravi Pawar said, “The administration is not offering any special discount to anybody. Senior citizens have been contacting the municipal office in large numbers to enquire about the rebate. It has led to confusion within the tax collection department.”The message claimed the state govt had issued a circular approving the discount.Officials said they had verified the message and it was fake. The tax collection department has urged citizens to always contact their local ward office or check the official municipal website for accurate information.PMC officials said discounts are offered on property tax payments made before May 31, initiated to encourage early birds and also help diligent citizens. Concessions are also offered to those using green building norms, such as rainwater harvesting, solar power and vermicompost.
