Tiger reserves to stay open till June 30

Lucknow: Given the prediction for less rainfall in UP in June this year, tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries in the state will remain open for visitors till June 30.June 15 is usually when protected areas get closed for visitors in UP every year.The ecotourism season this year was an extended one for visitors in UP because the sites opened on Nov 1, 2025. It was under the state govt’s initiative to extend the ecotourism season in the state. In 2024, the site opened on Nov 6. The usual dates for opening and closing of these sites were Nov 15 and June 15.The closure of the ecotourism sites, however, depends on the monsoon forecast. In 2023-24, tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries remained open till June 25. The extension of the ecotourism season will not only bring in additional revenue for the state but also boost the income of the locals, said the official release.UP has four tiger reserves: Dudhwa, Pilibhit, Amangarh and Ranipur. The number of tourists at tiger reserves is also growing every season. In 2023-24, as many as 56,770 domestic and 192 foreign tourists visited Dudhwa tiger reserve. In 2024-25, the number went up to 63,362 domestic and 788 foreign tourists.Similarly, Pilibhit tiger reserve had 38,183 domestic and 164 foreign tourists in 2023-24. In 2024-25, the number increased to 56,289 domestic and 452 foreign visitors.
