Varanasi: One Rajan, aged around 53, was shot dead when he was sleeping with his second wife’s family on a cot outside their house in a slum area of Beniabagh under Chowk police station early on Monday morning.Surprisingly, nobody in family could listen sound of firing despite assailants opened multiple fires. Rajan dwelt with first wife in Mirzapur and had arrived to attend engagement ceremony of her second wife’s younger son.DCP, Kashi zone, Gaurav Banswal said that Chowk police reached the spot and found the body of Rajan lying in a pool of blood on the cot. Following collection of evidence by forensic experts the body was sent for postmortem examination. An empty shell was also recovered from the cot.Rajan’s elder son Raju, who was sleeping near the cot of father with his wife, said that on Saturday two armed miscreants had raided his house but when his father raised alarm they fled. Raju said that he, his wife and other family members were also sleeping there but nobody heard the gunshots. Rajan was shot five times.During initial investigation it came to light that Rajan had two wives. The first wife lives in Narayanpur of Mirzapur, while the second wife was living in the slum of Beniabagh in Varanasi. The engagement of the younger son of the second wife is scheduled on June 20. To attend it, Rajan had come from Narayanpur to Beniabagh recently and after eating dinner, he had gone to sleep outside the house.
