NEET centres exempt from Yoga Day events

Jaipur: Schools designated as centres for the NEET re-test will not hold International Yoga Day events on June 21, the state education department clarified Monday, as 2.09 lakh candidates prepare to appear for the exam at 611 centres across 27 districts.Jaipur will have the highest number of centres at 106, followed by Sikar with 102 and Kota with 92.“Yoga Day events will be organised at all govt and private educational institutions, except at schools where the NEET examination will be conducted. Complete safety will be ensured at such institutions in view of the exam,” a senior official said. The clarification comes after the department last week issued guidelines directing schools to hold yoga sessions led by physical education teachers. Participation by students, staff and parents has been made mandatory.“It is directed that teachers who have travelled to their hometowns during the summer vacation and are unable to return to their place of posting for Yoga Day due to unavoidable reasons must mandatorily participate in the programme at the school nearest to their hometown,” an official order stated.Schools have also been asked to organise cultural programmes, essay competitions and lectures on yoga ahead of the event. The department said attendance details of all participants, including students, staff, parents and visitors, must be uploaded on its portal by noon on June 21.With International Yoga Day and the NEET re-test falling on the same day, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Sunday directed all district collectors and superintendents of police to inspect examination centres and ensure strong security arrangements. He also ordered strict action against suspects and those spreading rumours.
