Panaji: The unidentified person who had allegedly erected a metal gate in tenanted comunidade land in Mandur’s forest area has quietly removed it, as the stone wall at the same spot has been found restored.The tenant, Ramkrishna Naik, a resident of neighbouring village of Neura had filed a complaint, alleging trespass in his property belonging to Mandur comunidade.Azossim-Mandur panchayat had issued a stop work order and also a show cause notice to an unidentified person regarding the illegal activity, which kicked off a row in the area.St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar, who had visited the site, had alleged an attempt at grabbing land. A fire had occurred at the site and some trees were also axed, some time ago.Following the notice, Azossim-Mandur panchayat had issued a notice for an official inspection at the spot on June 17.“We have been told that the gadga wall has been restored but we will go ahead with the inspection and do a panchnama (as part of the procedure),” sarpanch Prashant Naik said.Local activist Ramrao Wagh said that media reports may have pressured the person concerned to remove the metal gate. “This could be an attempt to grab comunidade land, as it is happening elsewhere, with support from some quarters,” he stated.Wagh demanded that authorities like administrator of comunidades, central zone be involved in the inspection for a proper inquiry. The local comunidade body is also not functional.
