Chennai: A 47-year-old man and his son drowned in a farm well near Madurantakam.Amalraj and his son Joseph, 21, of Nelvai Palayam village, told their relatives that they were going to a nearby farm well to bathe on Saturday evening.As they did not return, the relatives began searching for them near the farmland. The next morning, a few villagers told the relatives that they had seen the duo fishing in the farm well. However, since the well was dilapidated and extremely deep, the relatives could not enter it.Upon information, Madurantakam fire and rescue services personnel reached the spot and recovered the bodies of Amalraj and Joseph from the well. The bodies were sent to Madurantakam govt hospital for postmortem. Madurantakam police have registered a case.Police suspect that Amalraj, who did not know how to swim, may have accidentally slipped and drowned while attempting to catch fish. Joseph may have jumped into the water to rescue his father, but drowned in the process, they added.
