CM’s convoy has close shave with drunken driving at Amona

Panaji: Four persons, including a Goa police constable, were briefly taken into preventive custody after their car nearly collided with the convoy of chief minister Pramod Sawant at Amona on Thursday night.Police said the incident occurred when the driver of the four-wheeler lost control, coming dangerously close to the CM’s vehicle. Sawant was travelling from Panaji to his residence at the time. No collision was reported.Police said that the case involved drunk driving, but no FIR was registered as there was no crash or impact.According to police, the four friends were returning home after dinner, during which they had allegedly consumed alcohol. They were subsequently detained and later released.Police said at Amona, when CMs convey was on the way to Sanquelim, suddenly a police constable who was driving four-wheeler and was on the way towards Marcel lost control and crashed into the convey but fortunately, there was no accident.One of the vehicles of CM’s convoy followed the four-wheeler and traced the vehicle which tried to escape from the spot.When the vehicle was traced, the driver of the four-wheeler was missing. Police attached to CM’s convoy handed over all three persons in the car to Bicholim police and on the next day the police constable was traced.PI who is holding charge of Bicholim police station Sanjit Kandolkar said that all four were under the influence of alcohol including the driver. “We took all under preventive arrest as three other people helped the driver escape from the spot, but we traced him on Friday,” Kandolkar said.He said that all four persons were produced before the deputy collector and they have signed a bond of good behaviour. “After signing the bond, all were released,” Kandolkar said.
