Hyderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has raided a pharmaceutical firm in Alwal and seized stocks worth ₹70.56 lakh for allegedly tampering with labels and using fictitious manufacturing details for pharmaceutical excipients, an inactive substance formulated alongside the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in a medication.Acting on specific inputs, DCA officials conducted a raid on DK Pharmaceuticals in Mangapuram Colony, Old Alwal, on Friday. During the inspection, officials found 12 cardboard drums containing 240 kg of hydroxypropyl betadex USP/NF, a pharmaceutical excipient used as a solubilising and stabilising agent in the manufacture of medicines.According to the DCA, the drums carried labels with a manufacturing date of May 2026 and an expiry date of April 2029. The labels also claimed that the product was manufactured by DK Pharmaceuticals at its facility in Pashamylaram, Sangareddy. However, verification by officials revealed that the manufacturing unit mentioned on the labels was fictitious and did not exist.Further investigation found that the firm’s partners, Sateesh Babu Dhulapalli and Nagaswami Katragadda, had allegedly removed the original labels from the excipient and affixed fabricated labels carrying false details. The stock was seized during the raid.DCA officials collected samples for analysis and said further investigation was underway. “Such activities amount to serious violations under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and are punishable with imprisonment of up to five years,” an official said.
