Chandigarh: Punjab state transport commissioner organised a special training camp for around 200 transport department drivers deployed with the chief minister, cabinet ministers and ‘other VIPs’. An official spokesperson said the training camp was held at the Sector 17 head office of the department to upgrade traditional driving habits into scientifically backed, defensive road safety skills.With the theme, ‘From Skill-Based Driving to Scientific Knowledge and From Confidence to Alertness & Efficiency’, the programme focused on preparing drivers for high-pressure and emergency situations. The curriculum emphasised defensive driving to transition mindsets toward proactive risk management, quick identification of road hazards and immediate emergency response protocols. Additionally, specialised sessions targeted driver psychology and behavioural adjustments to significantly reduce accidents caused by human error.State transport commissioner Parneet Shergill said, “This training is a significant step toward making our drivers not just technically sound, but also mentally alert and capable of handling unexpected field situations.”The programme featured expert sessions by Harpreet Singh from the NGO ‘Zero Accident’.
