Chennai: The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) is likely to release the results of assistant professors’ recruitment exam within two weeks. The board has already released the results of five subjects, and the results for the remaining 43 subjects, along with the shortlisted candidates, are expected to be released by the end of June.More than 42,000 candidates appeared for the exam to fill 2,708 assistant professors’ posts in govt arts and science colleges in Dec last year.“We are awarding marks for the experience of the candidates. We will release the results along with the shortlisted candidates in a 1:3 ratio for the interview,” a source in the TRB said.The board also decided to accept part-time PhDs acquired in the regular mode for the assistant professors’ recruitment following representations from teachers’ associations. “According to University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations, candidates who received PhDs through distance mode alone are not eligible for regular appointment, while part-time PhD degrees acquired in regular mode are eligible for appointment,” the source added.If the process goes by schedule, students joining the govt arts and science colleges will get new faculty members in their first semester.There are 181 govt arts and science colleges in the state that have huge vacancies due to no recruitment in the past 10 years. The colleges currently employ more than 8,000 guest faculty members.
