Pune: The Wagholi police on Friday registered a case of forgery and cheating against a Shirur-based man (32) for using a fake registration plate on his SUV to evade taxes and car loan EMIs.“The SUV owner is a businessman from Loni Kand and stays in Shirur. About a year ago, he bought the SUV on loan from a private bank. However, he did not want to pay the road toll or fees and also wanted to avert the EMIs,” said senior inspector Nandkumar Gaikwad of Wagholi police.“The crime branch officials received a tip-off about the vehicle that it was regularly plying on the Pune-Nagar highway. The team intercepted the vehicle and seized it. It was then taken to the police station for further legal action,” Gaikwad said.“It was found that the SUV owner had not paid the EMIs for the vehicle loan and bank officials were also searching for the SUV. Instead of handing over the SUV to the bank, he started driving the car by changing its registration plate”, Gaikwad said.
