Students of Haflong College protest over NEET-UG ‘paper leak’

Silchar: Braving heavy rain, students of Haflong College on Monday protested against the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG and demanded greater transparency and accountability in the country’s education system. The protesters raised concerns over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 question paper leak and called for a fair, transparent and secure examination process. They also sought comprehensive reforms to prevent recurrence of such incidents in national-level competitive examinations.According to the students, memoranda outlining a series of demands related to examination reforms and institutional accountability had earlier been submitted to the vice-chancellor of Assam University, Silchar, by students from several affiliated colleges. Alleging that their concerns had not received an adequate response, they launched the protest on Monday.Student leaders claimed that the controversy surrounding the alleged paper leak, investigations and the debate over a possible re-examination had eroded the confidence of thousands of aspirants. They argued that reports of arrests linked to the case underscored the need for stronger safeguards in the conduct of national entrance tests.During the demonstration, the students demanded stricter security protocols for examinations, greater transparency in the evaluation process and effective mechanisms to curb malpractice. They maintained that restoring the credibility of the examination system was essential to safeguard the interests and future prospects of students. The protesters warned that the agitation could be intensified if authorities fail to take prompt and decisive action on their demands.
