Mumbai: On Monday, 22-year-old Rishabh Gupta, a student at Kirti College, was heading to a Swiggy store in Dadar West after class to earn some extra income as a gig worker when a speeding BEST electric bus crashed into multiple vehicles, including his two-wheeler.The incident claimed the life of another Swiggy delivery worker and left several injured, including Rishabh, who suffered grievous head injuries.Doctors told TOI that Rishabh’s condition is critical and he is currently in the ICU. Sources said that he was admitted to the hospital with severe shortness of breath.His brother, Vikas, said BEST needs to take complete responsibility for the incident and compensate the injured as well as the deceased. “We also want the company [Swiggy] to stand by its workers. My brother was on the way to their store to pick up an Instamart order,” he added. The Guptas reside in Bhoiwada in Dadar East.Swiggy representatives said all their riders are covered under accidental insurance and the company is in touch with the families concerned for further assistance.A senior BEST official said that the treatment cost for those injured in the bus crash will be borne by the BEST.
