Dibrugarh: The Assam Police carried out an area domination exercise in the inter-state border and riverine areas along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary at Sadiya in Tinsukia district on Monday, with senior officers visiting local communities under the Saikhowaghat Police Station jurisdiction to strengthen ties between the police and the public.Additional SP (Headquarters), Sadiya, Arunima Bhuyan accompanied by the officer-in-charge of Saikhowaghat Police Station and police personnel, visited homes in the local communities, listened to public grievances, reinforced confidence-building measures and stressed on the importance of cooperation between residents and law enforcement in keeping the border region secure and peaceful.Tinsukia district, within which Sadiya falls, shares its borders with three districts of Arunachal Pradesh — Changlang, Namsai and Lower Dibang Valley. The inter-state border and riverine terrain in this zone presents particular challenges for law enforcement, making regular area domination exercises an essential tool for maintaining order, gathering ground-level intelligence and keeping communication channels open with border communities. The Bhupen Hazarika Setu, also known as the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge, connects Dhola in Tinsukia to Sadiya and serves as the first permanent road link between northern Assam and eastern Arunachal Pradesh. Located near the India-China border, the bridge has significantly enhanced strategic access to the region. The increased connectivity has also underlined the importance of sustained police presence and community engagement in the area.During Monday’s exercise, officers interacted with residents across several localities, addressing concerns related to security, cross-border movement and day-to-day law and order. The exercise aimed to reassure communities living in sensitive border areas that the administration remains accessible and responsive to their needs.
