Panaji: Economic Offences Cell (EOC) of Goa police on Saturday filed an FIR against 10 people in connection with an alleged misappropriation of funds invested in cryptocurrency to the tune of over Rs 7 crore.SP, EOC, Arshii Aadil said that the offence has been registered on the complaint of Poonam, a resident of Bicholim, against Lavish Choudhary alias Nawab Ali, a native of Uttar Pradesh and presently residing in Dubai, UAE, along with nine other people.Aadil said as per the complaint, the accused allegedly cheated investors in Goa, causing wrongful loss to the tune of approximately Rs 7.3 crore.Aadil said that Choudhary allegedly projected himself as the founder of entities namely Botbro, QFX Trade Ltd, Yorker Capital Markets, Botalpha, Crossmarkets and Minecrypto, among others.“The other accused persons allegedly acted as promoters and representatives of the said entities and induced investors by explaining company policies and luring them with promises of high returns,” Aadil further said. “Believing such representations, several investors from Goa are reported to have invested money in cryptocurrency and other online platforms through cash, online transfers and cheques.”Aadil said that the accused persons allegedly failed to return the invested amount and misappropriated the funds for their personal gain.Further investigation in the case is in progress with PI Ramesh Shirodkar.
