Aizawl: Mizoram health & family welfare minister Lalrinpuii and power & electricity minister F Rodingliana on Saturday visited Aizawl Civil Hospital and Zoram Medical College to review the power supply at the state’s two largest healthcare institutions.During their visit to Aizawl Civil Hospital, the ministers inspected preparations for the construction of a dedicated power line for the hospital. According to the proposed plan, the new line will be connected directly from the indoor sub-station to provide a more reliable supply.The ministers also examined proposed sites for installation of a 500 kVA diesel generator that will serve as a back-up power source during outages. Funds for the generator have already been released to the power & electricity department, while efforts are on to complete its installation at the earliest.In addition, they reviewed plans for a 20 kVA solar power system, with battery back-up, to support critical units within the hospital, including the ICU, blood bank, haemodialysis unit and operation theatre.Later, the ministers visited Zoram Medical College and Hospital (ZMC&H), where they reviewed plans for the installation of a 1.5 MW solar power plant, which is to be funded under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS-OTRI) at a cost of Rs 13.14 crore.The project also includes construction of a one-kilometre power distribution network within the medical college campus and installation of three new 500 kVA distribution transformers.Officials informed the ministers that of the proposed 1.5 MW solar plant, 1.2 MW will operate under the on-grid system, while the remaining 0.3 MW will function in hybrid mode.The ministers said the projects were being undertaken to guarantee round-the-clock power supply at the state’s major hospitals.The ministers were accompanied by state Health department secretary K. Lalrinzuali, power department engineer-in-chief Ngursailova Sailo, chief engineer (SO) Laltlanthanga, ZMC director Zoramthara Zadeng, medical superintendent Lalnunmawii Sailo and other officials.
