Ludhiana: Traffic was disrupted near Bharat Nagar Chowk after a nearly 12-foot stretch of road caved in Friday morning.The cave-in occurred on the stretch towards the bus stand. Local residents alerted area councillor Ruchi Gulati, who informed civic officials.Gulati (ward 73) attributed the collapse to private cable wiring work. “Digging for cables led to water leakage, which eroded the ground beneath the road. A heavy vehicle passing over it likely triggered the cave-in,” she said.MC teams from the O&M and B&R wings reached the spot and carried out repairs. Gulati said the incident was reported around 7 am and work continued till about 6 pm, causing traffic snarls on the busy stretch.While the councillor said MC teams handled repairs, officials maintained the road falls under NHAI jurisdiction and the work was carried out accordingly.The NHAI project director said the damaged service lane has been repaired.
