Jaipur: India won the bronze medal at the second edition of Asian Para Throwball Championship, organised under the auspices of the World Para Throwball Federation, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday. Nearly 200 para athletes from various Asian countries participated in the five-day competition.In the men’s category, Cambodia claimed the gold medal beating Sri Lanka in the final. India bagged the bronze medal.The Indian eves also finished third in the women’s category. Cambodia pocketed the gold medal, while hosts Malaysia placed second. The 3rd Asian Para Throwball Championship will be held in Rajasthan in March, 2027.The Indian delegation participated in the competition under the leadership of Nirmala Rawat, a renowned social worker from Jaipur and World President of the World Para Throwball Federation. The Indian delegation included Laxman Rawat, Dr Seema Sharma, Advocate Lalit Sharma, and Dr Pradeep Kumawat.The championship received special support and guidance from international sports officials. First Admiral Dato’ Subramaniam Raman Nair (Retd), Secretary General of the Paralympic Council of Malaysia, encouraged all participating nations and commended their efforts in developing Para Throwball in Asia.The event also featured Vesena, Chairman of the World Para Throwball Federation of Cambodia. He expressed his support for the efforts being made to expand para throwball and uplift the athletes.Advocate Lalit Sharma, Public Relations Officer of the Federation, stated that the competition was organized under the guidance of the World Para Throwball Federation. Dr V Albert Premkumar, Founder and General Secretary of the World Para Throwball Federation, played a key role as Organizing Secretary and made a significant contribution to the success of the competition.Nirmala Rawat and Dr V Albert Premkumar were honoured with special awards for their remarkable contribution in the development of para sports and upliftment of players.On this occasion, Nirmala Rawat said that para-sports provide disabled athletes with confidence, discipline, equal opportunities, and international recognition. Such events inspire athletes to move forward.An important announcement was also made during the championship that the 3rd Asian Para Throwball Championship will be held in Rajasthan, India in March 2027. This competition is expected to attract the maximum number of Asian countries, which will provide a new impetus to the development of para throwball.The successful conduct of the Championship marked a significant milestone in the development of Para Throwball in Asia and also strengthened India’s commitment to promoting inclusive sports.
