Kullu: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama will leave Dharamshala on June 5 for New Delhi to undergo medical treatment on his left knee, according to a statement issued by his office on Thursday. The statement said that following treatment and recovery, the 90-year-old Buddhist leader is scheduled to travel to Ladakh toward the end of June for an extended stay. While the office did not disclose details of the treatment, the Dalai Lama has faced recurring knee-related mobility issues in recent years and is often seen using a golf cart to move around his residence complex in Dharamshala. The latest treatment comes nearly two years after the Dalai Lama underwent knee replacement surgery in New York on June 28, 2024. His office then described the operation as successful, with doctors expecting a full recovery. He later returned to Dharamshala after spending several weeks in rehabilitation in the United States. The medical visit comes ahead of the Dalai Lama’s planned trip to Ladakh, where he has a large following and regularly spends extended periods meeting devotees, monks and local residents.
