Delhi to witness more rainy days

New Delhi: The city is likely to receive rain accompanied by gusty winds till June 4. Due to regular rain activity, the mercury is expected to remain below 40 degrees Celsius till June 6.The maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 35.8 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal. It was 37.2 degrees Celsius a day earlier. While rain eluded during the daytime, overcast skies and cooler winds kept mercury in check.A met official said, “Another western disturbance is expected to impact the region, leading to rain and thunderstorms in the city.” A yellow alert has been issued for both Monday and Tuesday for light to very light rain and gusty winds up to 60 kmphThe maximum temperture is likely to stay between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius on Monday. It may rise gradually to around 37-39 degrees Celsius by Wednesday.The minimum temperature settled at 23.3 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal. This may touch 29 degrees Celsius by Wednesday.Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘satisfactory’ category for the second consecutive day. The AQI was 98 on Sunday and 85 on Saturday.The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Sunday said the average AQI of Delhi for Jan–May during 2026 was the second lowest in eight years at 211 after the Covid year 2020 when it was 181. The average AQI of Delhi during May this year was the third lowest during the eight year. The city recorded excess rainfall in Jan, March and April this year, helping in settling down of the pollutants.
