TNNMumbai: Several consumers in parts of Mumbai’s western suburbs, such as Andheri and Borivli, reported recurring power outages, with some saying they had sleepless nights during the weekend due to disruptions.Among those who took to social media was actress Rupali Ganguly who tweeted early Sunday morning: “Power outage in our building and two other buildings since last night … the lights kept going and coming but now it’s been gone since 1 am …chatbots have been saying the issue will be resolved in 34 mins since the last 4 hours and now says there is no outage at all ! .. and this is happening in the financial capital..”Another tweet mentioned: “It’s the story from the last four days — there is no action being taken by any of the staff. Need an immediate solution on this, power cuts that too in the night, and the irony is for the whole night for four days. Need an immediate solution for this.”A source at a power utility said system data showed a year-on-year rise in the heat index amid high humidity, leading to higher electricity demand due to increased air-conditioning use. The source said consumers did not change their power demand, and the load remained on the high side, which strained the distribution network and resulted in power outages in some instances. The source said Mumbai recently witnessed an all-time high peak demand of 4,558 MW.A resident of Versova tweeted: “No electricity since the whole night.. what torture the residents have been subjected to.” Another resident from the same area said that the power cuts were recurring on a few occasions over the past month, amid the sultry and hot weather. Residents of the Kastur Park area in Borivali said they faced power failures and fluctuation in power supply over the past two days. Another consumer tweeted: “We need compensation as we have gone through mental stress due to power failure the past 3 days.:”Power utility companies were unavailable for comment.
